The couple’s paths crossed again this time in Mykonos and started dated in Sydney. “We were in Los Angeles when Nick proposed. It was the first time my family were all in one city. Nick had arranged for everyone to meet at Malibu Pier. We climbed the highest rock and it was there that Nick got down on one knee!”

It was teenage romance beginning at the age of sweet 16 for Chloe and James, after meeting at a mutual friends birthday party. “I was hesistant at first but James persisted for months. We have grown together over the last 11 years and feel so blessed to have met each other so young,” said Chloe.

James proposed at the end of an 11 week European holiday in Malta where his family is from. Chloe never had the chance to meet James’ grandparents before they passed away so they wanted to make the trip to visit the beautiful village of Paola where they were from. “James proposed to me on the front steps of the Church where his grandparents had been married 60 years earlier. It was such a beautiful moment,” Chloe said.

Kylie Hopkins and Jonathan Dissanayake were simply meant to be, there was only so many times they could label meeting as coincidence. “I would be the first person to be wearing a quizzical expression, but dare I say it, our story forces you to ponder the possibility that the cliché, ‘It was fate,’ is still very much alive,” said Kylie.

On yet another much frequented dance floor, a girlfriend of Kylie’s decided enough was enough. She approached Jonathan and asked him if he would care to dance with Kylie. It was a 'Yes' and they danced the night away. Jonathan wasted little time, asking Kylie to be his first girlfriend on Valentine’s Day with a red rose and a cheeky smile. After eight years together creating their story, Jonathan proposed with the stars seemingly within reach, candlelight and roses strewn across the floor of a rooftop terrace. It was naturally the highlight of a luxury-laden weekend away, planned with precision and as Kylie said, “It was perfect!”

David Osborne had a challenge and that was proposing to Laura Manns without her becoming the least suspicious. “I’m quite organised and inquisitive so it’s hard to surprise me,” Laura said. Hollie Parsons and Lukasz Sempka first met at university whilst studying podiatry. However they didn’t connect until many years later at a conference in New Zealand and began dating. 

Lukasz planned his surprise proposal on Hollie's birthday, whisking her away to Jonah’s at Whale Beach for the night. "Before our degustation dinner Lukasz handed me a birthday card and got down on one knee and asked if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him," Hollie said.

Michael and Min Jin met through a mutual friend but it took quite a few meetings before the overly shy Michael finally plucked up the courage to talk to Min Jin. “We had been together for 8 years before he proposed!” said Min Jin. Although Michael had said he would never propose on the Eiffel Tower it was all to keep his proposal a surprise. “We were on a holiday in Paris and the weather had been quite wet. When it rains they often close the Eiffel Tower lift. This would have ruined Michael's plan but as luck would have it, the night we were there the lift was working. When we got to the second level the view was amazing and he got so nervous, he blurted out, “So do you want to get married?” I could not stop laughing as I knew how nervous he was and of course it was a YES!” said Min Jin.

It began as a holiday romance. Samantha Samuels was visiting from South Africa and was introduced to Michael Krimotat whilst on a night out with family friends. "Michael and I clicked instantly, we spent the night talking and dancing. By 3am I wanted to go to the beach and as I'm from Johannesburg, the beach is the most exciting place on earth! We spent the next few hours talking about everything," Samantha said. When it came time for the holiday to end neither of them could bare the thought of being apart. So they didn’t say goodbye and the rest is history.

For travel enthusiasts Justina Ding and Wesley Cronin, it was serendipitous that they should both decide to return home to Australia at the same time in 2008. Introduced shortly afterwards by a mutual acquaintance who thought they would be perfect for one another,  they discovered they had an enormous amount in common and quickly became inseparable. Justina fondly recalls, "We started to get to know each other and realised we were pretty much the same person; Wes was a male version of me and I was a female version of Wes!"

Spring may have not been due for weeks, but on the August day that Sebastian and Amanda became husband and wife, the grey clouds of winter were nowhere to be seen. Instead, the happy couple were serenaded by blue skies and glorious sunshine. 

Having fallen in love at first sight at a mutual friend's party several years earlier, Amanda and Sebastian became engaged under the whale arch at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron in Kirribilli.
