Estera and Matthew first met in Sunday school at church. “We have grown up together. I always had a huge crush on Matthew. I knew I would marry him but he didn’t notice me until I was 18!”
While holidaying in Fiji, newly engaged Estera and Matthew saw a couple hosting their wedding at the resort where they were staying. “We decided to investigate Fijian resorts as potential wedding venues. The following day Matt and I went exploring. We headed west from Nadi to the Coral Coast. The last resort we came across was InterContinental Fiji. We made our decision on the spot. This was where we wanted to have our wedding. The resort was beautiful and overlooked the white sandy beach and crystal blue water.
The staff were incredibly friendly too. When we returned home Matt and I asked our families and guests if they would be willing to travel for a destination wedding and luckily everyone said, ‘Yes!’”
Estera found planning the destination wedding a little stressful. “Matt is a construction manager so he is an incredible organiser. He took over the planning with the help of the wedding planner from InterContinental Fiji. My family helped out too so it was really all hands on board. Pinterest and Instagram were my best friends and wedding magazines gave us the inspiration to make the day come together the way we had dreamt.”
Horseriding is Estera’s favourite hobby and also one of the activities she and Matthew did together the day Matthew proposed. “Having wedding photographs taken riding a horse has always been a dream of mine. I’m so happy I had that opportunity with Matt by my side. I think Matt was a little worried the horse was going to canter off with me, but I was just so excited.”
Guests took to the dance floor set beneath a canopy of twinkling fairy lights, lanterns and exposed globes. “We were entertained by fireworks and fire dancers on the beach as well as local traditional dancers. Everyone joined in and we were all having so much fun.
