Alyce and Joseph were married at the luxurious Phalosa Villa in Bali, “Our wedding was everything we had ever dreamed of having. We wish we could do it all over again!”

THE PLANNING

The beachfront wedding took a year and a half to plan. “Brooke from Baliku Weddings took care of absolutely everything. Joseph and I were relieved of any wedding planning stress and were able to simply relax and enjoy the journey of creating our destination wedding.”

The wedding was attended by 130 of the couple’s family and friends. “They all flew to Indonesia! It meant so much to us to have our nearest and dearest there to celebrate our marriage.” For Alyce and Joseph’s guests it was a wedding and holiday all rolled into one. They had the opportunity to escape the ordinary and join the couple for an incredibly memorable getaway.

set the scene

Alyce and Joseph held an afternoon ceremony followed by a cocktail hour and reception. “Our venue had the most incredible views of the Indian Ocean." Phalosa Villa which literally means ‘to shine’ did just that as the setting sun’s rays danced across the water.

Alyce and Joseph were married on a raised infinity pool beneath an arbour of green foliage and white flowers. Beneath rows of white lanterns the rose-petal aisle set the scene for a beautiful wedding celebration.

DREAM TEAM

“Brooke from Baliku Weddings and her dream team of vendors exceeded our expectations.” Phalosa Villa is a space with bold architecture and panoramic views from which the team were able to create an elegant and romantic wedding setting. “After so many months of planning, it was fascinating to see our wedding vision be brought to life on the day.”

timeless style

The wedding style had a modern feel that was coupled with classic elements. Light up ‘A&J’ letters contrasted with chandeliers and hundreds of candles created a romantic ambience. A subtle colour palette of black, white, ivory and oyster complemented the abundance of greenery surrounding the villa. The cocktail hour furniture as well as the tables, chairs and dancefloor were all white for a traditional wedding feel.

For flowers, over 2000 long-stemmed ivory roses were in full bloom. “I think ivory roses are timeless. They are used to express the sincerity of one’s love and long-lasting promise of commitment so it seemed perfectly fitting for our wedding.” Alyce’s bouquet was inspired by Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding bouquet from Alyce's favourite television series Sex and the City.

RAIN, HAIL OR SHINE

“Despite the fact that Mt Agung volcano was on the highest alert and it rained basically non stop all morning, the day was truly magical. Luckily we received what the Balinese call a wedding blessing. This is when it rains all morning then stops for the ceremony. After the ceremony there is another downpour and then the rain clears for the evening’s celebrations!”

SWEETEST MEMORIES

After the cutting of the cake, a sweet 2-tiered beauty with a layer of red velvet and  a layer of carrot cake, Alyce and Joseph surprised their guests with a display of fireworks.

“One of the funniest moments of the day was when I discreetly lost my ‘something blue’ wedding shoes while walking down the aisle. However the show must go on!”

Alyce and Joseph had an acoustic version of ‘their song’ by Swedish House Mafia recorded specially for their first dance at their wedding reception. Mid-way through their dance, Alyce and Joseph’s guests joined in. “As part of the Italian tradition during the first dance, guests hold colourful streamers and place them in the hands of the bride and groom as they dance. Our guests wrapped their streamers around us, spoke loving words and well wishes as we danced. It was so special.”
