Why we love it
Perched high above Portofino harbour, where terracotta rooftops tumble into the Ligurian Sea, Splendido has reopened its fabled doors. Once a 16th-century Benedictine monastery, later the summer home of Hollywood royalty and European aristocracy, it has returned after a meticulous multi-year restoration by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio. Not reinvented, but reawakened.
Highlights
Riviera glamour, beautifully restrained – hand-painted botanical frescoes, bespoke Italian furnishings, antique mirrors and Carrara marble.
Villa Beatrice – a private residence on the hillside, with Gothic Revival and Art Nouveau detailing, panoramic terraces and its own pool.
La Terrazza and Splendido Grill – Executive Chef Corrado Corti’s menus celebrate Liguria, and Baratta Sedici pours negronis beneath custom murals.
Dior Spa Splendido – the first Dior Spa in Italy, set in the hotel’s terraced gardens.
For a honeymoon or wedding
The transformed chapel and gardens make a spectacular setting to say “I do”, and Villa Beatrice is made for post-wedding privacy. Begin with espresso on your balcony, take a boat along the coast, and end on a candlelit corner of the terrace.
