To spray or not to spray?

by Petr Vackar, Beauty

"Shall I spray tan for my event?"

Glow is the word of the moment. With the spring not only the wedding season kicked off but also many other social festivities on the calendar.

We all love a little bit of glow on our skin, but if I may, please make it real. We have come across many a bad spray tan and unhappy ‘Oompa loompa’ customers.

Today, there are many brands and tanning studios with a range of colours that have undertones that can balance the unwanted orange tone. However, even then you need to be careful so the undertone doesn't develop too strong on your skin as you could easily end up green.

I always strongly recommend to try before you buy. Even more so for your wedding or event. So yes, go and try as many places as you need to and find the one which ‘tans you’ so you feel like the best version of yourself.

If you are going to get a spray for your wedding then I highly recommend it to be done at least 2.5 days prior so the colour sets nicely and doesn’t wear off onto your dress on your big day.

My recommendation is to always go for a natural/organic solution so as to avoid all the nasty preservatives and parabens.

The skin is the largest organ in the body and like any other organ will react to anything and everything. No doubt weddings can be an extra exciting time (sometimes stressful) your skin may react differently to the product you may use regularly.

Facts about tanning

  • You should know that regardless of the forms (lotions, cream or mousse) of self-tanning, they use the same active ingredient – DHA (DHA is a colourless chemical and it is derived from glycerin) that interacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a brown color change.

  • Good news: easy to use, rapidly drys.

  • Bad news is the cost $25-$50 a session; you have to continuously experiment to get the blend that you like. Remember that everyone has different skin chemistry. What worked for the others might not work for you.

An interesting fact - in stressful times skin can react differently to the chemicals and cause the tan to turn patchy. So, NO Parabeens NO chemicals!

How to prepare for your first tanning session?

  • Beautiful skin starts from within- so drink plenty of water!

  • Make sure to moisturise after every shower and before and after tanning.

  • As soon as you give tanning spray a chance, you should schedule for an appointment. Before going, make sure that you shaved or wax. Do not forget to exfoliate your skin before you come to your appointment for better results. When you are in the salon, remove the makeup, moisturiser or deodorant before allowing them to spray. More importantly, before application, apply a tiny amount of Vaseline on your knees, ankles, palms, and elbows. Do not forget to wear a shower cap and put lip balm on your lips.

Bronzed legs

Showing the Spring Summer collections often calls for bronzed pins to match the amount of skin on show. This year, St. Tropez tanning and skin finishing expert Jayne Cooper used the brand’s Instant Tan Gloss at Henry Holland to create a natural, effortless summer glow.
